How our culture is out of whack (2021)
From on-going writing towards a book on the immune system.
For those who weren’t paying attention, 2020 informed us our mainstream culture was broken. How EXACTLY is mainstream culture out of whack? How can we conceive this clearly so we can address it?
Ancient Greeks set the standard for measuring healthy mainstream culture: “Where there is no vision the people perish.” This expands usefully to, ‘Where there is no healthy vision of a positive future for the 99%, the people perish.’
Make sense? For me, evidence for this abounds; just look around, notice the unnecessary suffering.
Since the Greeks defined healthy culture in the negative, let’s define healthy culture in the positive.
Can we? Yes, this task became possible after two rhetorics developed:
- in the 1970s, the updating of Meyers-Briggs into Kiersey-Bates MBTI, and
- the 2001 three-part dividing of demographics in Cultural Creatives by Paul Ray and Sherry Anderson.
